Scope and purpose of the work: This is an informational book.
Intended audience: The intended audience for this book is anyone who is seeking information on how to batik, as well as a more American look to batik, when it was very popular in the 70s. Summary: There is no thesis because it is an informational book. This novel was a step by step guide on the process of batik. Some chemicals that I could use to make my batik look different than my normal basic technique is my using salt and amonia to create a chemical reaction that changes the color, and texture.
Evaluation of research: Yes the work is very well researched with lots of explanations that helped me understand what batik is and the steps to do it.
Evaluation of author bias: No the author does not take any bias because he is imforming the reader about the process. He does however, have his own ways of creating batiks that is unlike any other artist.
Reflection: Overall this was a very helpful book because It showed me lots of examples of artwork that I can use as a reference to create my own form of batik I have to go through several steps before starting to create my batik, and also learned a lot about the materials that I need to get before I start.
Information: Citation #9 Van Roojen, Pepin, Batik Design. Boston Shambhala Print, 1997. Print. Author’s credential The authors work is a lot more modern, professional batik artist. He has studied art all over the world. For example, his main focus is in South Eastern Asia, Middle Eastern and Chinese architecture. The Middle East is where batik was originated, and the fact that he studied there for a large amount of his life shows his knowledge in the artform.
Scope and purpose of the work This is an informational book. Intended audience The intended audience is for anyone who would like to find out more information on batik. Most of the people who would read this book, should have at least some expierence in batik because his explinations are for the more informed reader.
Summary: There is no thesis because it is an informational book. The author shows lots of examples of his own work, as well as putting an emphasis on how important the design is in batiking. He states that "The design makes the piece." What are the main arguments? There is no thesis, the author provides a lot of information and examples of batiking through photographs as well as captions. There are many different types of examples that are shown throughout the book that explains to me how to make my batik more original; there is a lot more design than the other batik book that I was given to look over, it shows a lot of different creative things you can do if you really sit and plan it out. Somethign I learned from this, is to be much more detailed when creating my design. The author makes a plan before he starts his piece, which is one thing that I did not do. After reading the book, I created a small piece using his technique and found that the process was much easier for me.
Evidence? Lots of pictures of different batik design that is incredibly detailed. (stated in the above paragraph)
Evaluation of research The work is very well researched with lots of explanations that help me understand how to be more creative when it comes to batik.
Evaluation of author bias No the author does not take any bias because it is an informative work. The author has his own way of creating batiks that are unlike anyother, instead puttign his emphisis in pre designe planing.
Reflection: Overall this was a very helpful book because It showed me lots of examples of artwork. This gave me a lot more of ideas for my design, I tend to get an artist block and become unable to think of ideas but after reading this book I took lots of notes and made drawings after reflecting and reading.
Information: Citation #10 Wilford, Mary. The Art of Batik. New York New York, Daine Publishing Limited, 1999. Print. Author’s credentials: She is a professional batik artist that has just the type of look that I’m looking for. Mary studied all over the world but her main focus was in Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the largest originators for batik design. She tends to use impresionist morifs in her work.
Scope and purpose of the work This is an informational book. Intended audience The intended audience for this book is anyone who is seeking information on how to batik Summary: There is no thesis because it is an informational book about her process of batik. She uses a beginners easy step by step guide. What are the main arguments? There is no thesis, the author provides a lot of information and examples of batiking through photographs as well as captions. Mary explains that it’s much more than an art form and is a part of everyday life. The book is broken down in to differnt sections, on the areas of materials that can be used. Types of cloths and their response to the process.
Evidence? Lots of photos of nature and how it is an influence to the author’s batiks. One thing that I learned is the effects that different materials can have on batiking. I was not aware that I can use silk and wool as a material for batiking. I also learned that using other forms of fibers like silk can create a very professional when the process is complete, unlike my work which tends to be very messy and thrown together.
Evaluation Evaluation of research yes the work is very well researched with lots of explanations that help me understand what batik is and the steps to do it, as well as how I can incorporate the things around me to inspire me.
Evaluation of author bias No the author does not take any bias because it is an imformation piece, showing the readers how to better their own batik artform.
Reflection Overall this was a very helpful book because It showed me lots of examples of batiks that were almost exactly the same type of impressionist look that I am going for. It gave me a spark of ideas, and inspired me to take my art journal to the park and the lake, and drawl nature. Impressionism has lots of blur of the world around us and it’s a lot easier to show that through nature. In conclusion I have decided to study the sunset each night, take a photo of it and re draw it, Until I find the perfect night selection of colors to do my work.

There is no thesis because it is an informational book. The author shows lots of examples of his own work, as well as putting an emphasis on how important the design is in batiking. He states that "The design makes the piece."
What are the main arguments?
There is no thesis, the author provides a lot of information and examples of batiking through photographs as well as captions.
Evaluation of research
The work is very well researched with lots of explanations that help me understand how to be more creative when it comes to batik.
Evaluation of author bias
No the author does not take any bias because it is an informative work. The author has his own way of creating batiks that are unlike anyother, instead puttign his emphisis in pre designe planing.
Reflection:
Overall this was a very helpful book because It showed me lots of examples of artwork. This gave me a lot more of ideas for my design, I tend to get an artist block and become unable to think of ideas but after reading this book I took lots of notes and made drawings after reflecting and reading.

Citation #10
Wilford, Mary. The Art of Batik. New York New York, Daine Publishing Limited, 1999. Print.
Author’s credentials:
She is a professional batik artist that has just the type of look that I’m looking for. Mary studied all over the world but her main focus was in Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the largest originators for batik design. She tends to use impresionist morifs in her work.
Scope and purpose of the work
This is an informational book.
Intended audience
The intended audience for this book is anyone who is seeking information on how to batik
Summary:
There is no thesis because it is an informational book about her process of batik.
Evaluation
Evaluation of research
yes the work is very well researched with lots of explanations that help me understand what batik is and the steps to do it, as well as how I can incorporate the things around me to inspire me.
Evaluation of author bias
No the author does not take any bias because it is an imformation piece, showing the readers how to better their own batik artform.
Reflection
Overall this was a very helpful book because It showed me lots of examples of batiks that were almost exactly the same type of impressionist look that I am going for.
